In commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the inaugural International Day of Clean Energy, IRENA orchestrated an exclusive event titled \’Renewables Talk for IRENA Permanent Representatives.\’
During the event, COP28 President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber highlighted the significant contributions of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the advancement of renewable energy sectors. Dr. Al Jaber underscored IRENA\’s crucial role in advocating for policy, technology, and financial initiatives that drive progress within the global renewable energy landscape.
However, amidst the celebration, a stark reality remains; approximately 600 million people, constituting 43% of Africa\’s total population, currently lack access to electricity, with the majority located in Sub-Saharan Africa. This serves as a poignant reminder of the pressing need to address energy inequality and accelerate the transition to clean energy on a global scale.
