In a chaotic turn of events, a wave of bushfires on the West Wing of Las Vegas Estate at the Kwara State House of Assembly (KWHA) Complex, prompted urgent concerns over the inadequate management of the premises. The incident unfolded late yesterday evening 5th February 2024, as the flames threatened the premises.
Eyewitnesses revealed that open burning in the vicinity of the KWHA complex led to a critical situation, narrowly averted by the swift response of the Kwara State Brigade or the firefighters. The flames, which originated from an unidentified source, caused the collapse of two trees that fell over the fence of the Assembly blocking the road to the Las Vegas Estate for several hours, thus posing a severe threat to the complex\’s integrity.
Anonymous sources suggested the possibility of intentional ignition, igniting the bushfires that resulted in the downfall of the massive woods. This obstruction caused significant disruptions for Las Vegas Estate roads, bringing normal life to a standstill for several hours until the obstruction was manually cleared through the cutting of the large dried wood.
As concerns mount, there is a call for the Kwara State House of Assembly Commission to launch a thorough investigation into the incident. The expectation is that measures will be urgently implemented to prevent a recurrence, highlighting the pressing need for improved management of the KWHA Complex to safeguard against future crises.
